‘Emma Alcock’s meditative painting generates its quiet presence through the patient application of veils of paint to form what seem on the one hand like hovering abstractions, on the other possible shorthand for everyday objects. Might ‘Rectangle with Line II’ show a straight vase on one of two table tops in skewed perspective? Even taking it literally, we might wonder what the line is – if the vertical, isn’t that more a slim rectangle? If the horizontal, why isn’t it ‘rectangles’ plural?’

Exhibition ‘Reflection on Light’ – Twelve Female Artists

Such a special exhibition to be part of with some remarkable artists. The author and award winning art critic Chloe Ashby wrote an insightful essay ‘Come to Light’ specially for the show below is a quote referencing my paintings.

‘… colour and light are inextricably entwined. The painter Emma Alcock would say the same for light and dark, an intimacy that plays out on her meditative canvases in the form of shadows, silhouettes and the gently glowing splinters in between.’

August 2022. Commission by to draw The Chapel of The Imperial Society of Knights Bachelor in St Pauls Cathedral, London by The Imperial Society of Knights Bachelor.

Such an honour to be asked to draw this chapel, I spent a week in the crypt of St Pauls Cathedral and made a series of drawings, this was the one they chose and used it for their Christmas card.
